Development of Transition Structures between Overhead Rigid Conductor Line and Catenary-Type Contact Line

Masatoshi SHIMIZU,  Takehiro KOBAYASHI,  Akinori OYA

Because of their simple structure and low-maintenance characteristics, railways have often adopted overhead rigid conductor lines for current collection systems in the underground track sections or tunnels. To adopt rigid conductor lines into the small section tunnel, it is necessary to install a transition structure to make a pantograph shift from the catenary-type contact line to the rigid conductor line in the exterior of the tunnel. However, since the present transition structure is complicated, has the inferior current collection characteristics, and requires many support equipments, its construction cost is high. In order to solve these problems, we have developed a new structure. It has a satisfactory performance for operating trains at speed of 130km/h, and the length of the equipment can be shortened to about one third of the present one.
