On April 14, 1999, the Maglev vehicle MLX01 successfully recorded a maximum speed of 552 km/h in two manned vehicle test runs on the Yamanashi Maglev Test Line. The first run was implemented at 1:49 p.m., and the second was at 2:14 p.m., both reaching the same maximum speed. The previous maximum speeds of MLX01 were 531 km/h (manned) recorded on December 12, 1997, and 550 km/h (unmanned) on December 24, 1997.
