RTRI and DBST Reach Agreement on Collaborative Research

Railway Technical Research Institute and DB Systemtechnik GmbH today announced that they concluded a joint research agreement. The signing was already completed on September 24, 2014 in Berlin.

DBST is an independent research institute in Deutsche Bahn AG group and it has 650 employees, five research and development divisions, and 18 test centers. It provides DB group companies with customer services in the international railway market as well as technical services. RTRI and DBST has already continued to share information regarding railway aerodynamics over 15 years through a number of international conferences.

Through this joint research, we will seek to compare Japanese and German methods which have been developed in each country to predict and evaluate micro-pressure waves at tunnel ends, on the basis of different specifications of each country’s tunnels and trains. We would like to expand the opportunities to apply RTRI’s prediction methods as well. By this collaboration, it is expected that micro-pressure-wave predictions for trains and tunnels with various specifications will be made possible as well as enhancement of the precision.

Under this agreement, RTRI will send a researcher to DBST in order to advance the research work under this agreement.

The signing ceremony was held at the site of InnoTrans 2014 in Berlin, and, representing each institute, RTRI’s President, Dr. Norimichi KUMAGAI and DBST’s Managing Director, Dr. Hans Peter Lang signed the agreement.

In addition to the research in aerodynamics, both organizations are to advance the research in other fields.
