6th RTRI-SNCF Railway Collaborative Research Seminar held in Paris

RTRI and SNCF, French National Railways (SNCF) held the 6th Railway Collaborative Research Seminar in Paris for three days from September 29 to October 1, 2014.

Since concluding a joint-research agreement in 1995, RTRI and SNCF have implemented joint research projects in various technical fields.
This 6th seminar was held at the Innovation and Research Department in Bercy, Paris, and from RTRI, 15-member delegation led by Executive Director Takai participated.

They had discussions on how to manage research and development activities and made presentations on the results of the joint research projects for two days.

At the meeting on R&D management, it was confirmed that both sides will focus on topics in the fields of safety including disaster prevention, energy saving, efficient maintenance, and big-data utilization. During the technical session, four presentations were made to report the results of the following 6th-phase projects and five topics for the 7th-phase projects were introduced.

6th-phase projects

  ・preventive maintenance of catenary
  ・ride comfort
  ・power storage
  ・and ballasted track simulation

7th-phase projects

  ・Superconducting power supply cable
  ・Power storage
  ・Railway bridge dynamics
  ・Catenary inspection and preventive maintenance
  ・Ballasted track simulation

On the last day of the seminar, they took a tour to the second-term construction area of TGV Est to see the substations, signaling equipment, and catenary which are under construction.

RTRI and SNCF agreed to continue this research collaboration by keeping close communications and to have the next seminar in 2016 in Japan, and signed the minutes.
